Newt Gingrich, Professor Emeritus of Republican studies, is giving a public lecture at the esteemed American Enterprise Institute:
Almost nine years after the 9/11 attacks, the United States has yet to confront the threat posed by the extremist and irreconcilable wing of Islam. Former Speaker of the House and AEI senior fellow Newt Gingrich will warn that now is the time to awaken from self-deception about the nature of our enemies and rebuild a bipartisan commitment, in Afghanistan and elsewhere, to defend America. Drawing on the lessons of Camus and Orwell, Gingrich will describe the dangers of a wartime government that uses language and misleading labels to obscure reality.
The idea that Newt Gingrich is going to be using the writings of two avowed socialists, Albert Camus and George Orwell, to support his ideas is one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard. It’s roughly the equivalent of one of the following:
- Drawing on the ageless wisdom of the Koran, Benjamin Netanyahu will address the Knesset on the dangers of sharing control of Jerusalem.
- Drawing on the conclusions of Charles Darwin, Pat Robertson will describe how God created the earth just over 10,000 years ago.
- Drawing on the philosophy of Ayn Rand’s objectivism, Josette Sheeran will discuss the importance of reparations for slavery and how all white people can help.
The brain trust at AEI never ceases to amaze.
