-The racist British National Party (see video above) has been trying to become a more mainstream part of the British political culture, but a judge has ruled that its membership guidelines still violate non-discrimination laws. If you look at the membership section of the BNP constitution, you’ll see that racial discrimination is rather the whole point of the party. (Happily, BNP leader Nick Griffin is regularly greeted with shouts of “Nazi Scum” whenever he makes appearances. Wanker).
-The New Orleans Inspector General has found that MWH Americas, one of the contractors hired for post-Katrina reconstruction, has been overcharging and scamming the city, with the help of corrupt local officials. (I know – it’s not shocking, but it’s sickening nonetheless).
-President Obama is donating his $1.4 million Nobel Prize award to a series of charities benefiting veterans, earthquake victims, schools, and the like. Somehow the right-wingers will try to turn this into a scandal.
-Glenn Beck has urged his audience members to leave their houses of worship if the words “social justice” appear on their church websites. Matthew Yglesias points out that those words appear on the websites of the Vatican, the Episcopal Church, the United Methodist Church, the American Baptist Church, and, yes, Beck’s own Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Glenn Beck is an idiot.
-Delays in the Iraqi election results continue, and Nuri Al-Maliki’s party shows a narrow lead so far over Shi’ite parties.
-I must admit that “vajazzling” is a completely new concept to me. Wow.
