Yesterday North Carolina Representative Virginia Foxx (Shockingly, R) said that health care reform poses a greater threat to America than “any terrorist right now in any country.” Obviously, such an extreme and, frankly, unhinged remark required some clarification from Republican leadership. So today, vice-chair of the house Republican conference, Cathy McMorris Rodgers of Washington, offered such a clarification.
The difference between health care reform and terrorism? According to McMorris Rodgers, it’s the difference between an “external” and “internal” attack. I am not kidding.
“I would say it’s the difference between an internal versus an external attack. Yes,” McMorris Rodgers said. The Democratic bill “is internal. This is rocking our foundation.”
This is what passes for political leadership in our country. I am constantly embarrassed.
