Early news from Oslo:
OSLO (Reuters) – U.S. President Barack Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday for giving the world “hope for a better future” and striving for nuclear disarmament.
The decision to award one of the world’s top accolades to a president less than nine months into his first term, who has yet to score a major foreign policy success, came as a big surprise and provoked strong international criticism as well as praise.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee praised Obama for “his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.”
Congratulations, Mr. President.
But how long before Republicans denounce it?
Update I:
It didn’t take very long. Seriously, what is wrong with these assholes?
Update II:
This is literally unbelievable. Morning Joe’s talking heads all agree: getting a prestigious award about working for world peace is a devastating political setback. Just try to watch this without your head exploding.
Update III:
The Republican party stands with the Taliban in denouncing the award of the Nobel prize to Obama.
- As rediculous as this prize has been over the years, it seems completely stupid to argue that the award will somehow hurt Obama politically or our nation’s efforts on the international stage.
